July is notoriously slow going in the publishing world, but there are still plenty of LGBT gems being released this month. Some highlights include:
- The Curse of the Dragon God: A Gay Adventure, by Geoffrey Knight, is the latest novel in Mr. Knight’s rip-roaring “Fathom’s Five Gay Adventure” series. It is a globe trotting tale that jumps from the streets of San Francisco, to the deserts of Dubai, to the wondrous byways of Beijing.
- In her new novel,The Kid, bestselling author Sapphire tells “the electrifying story of Abdul Jones, the son of Push’s unforgettable heroine, Precious.”
- The Late Lord Byron, by Doris Langley Moore, “‘The best biography of Lord Byron ever written,’ according to Poet Laureate W.S. Merwin, is now back in print after decades.”
- Smoketown, by Tenea D. Johnson, is a lyrical post-apocalyptic novel, with a female heroine, that explores a fantastical world full of both “magic and redemption.”
- Putting Makeup on the Fat Boy, by Bil Wright, is a new YA novel whose main character Carlos Duarte, “knows that he’s fabulous. He’s got a better sense of style than half the fashionistas in New York City, and he can definitely apply makeup like nobody’s business. He may only be in high school, but when he lands the job of his dreams–makeup artist at the Feature Face counter in Macy’s–he’s sure that he’s finally on his way to great things…”
- Assaracus Issue 03: A Journal of Gay Poetry , edited by Bryan Borland, is the third issue of “the only print journal in the world dedicated completely to gay men’s poetry.” This issue contains ten poems about everyone’s favorite aspiring homosexual/actor James Franco.
