There are few more exciting ways to start the new year than with a fresh TBR (or, perhaps more accurately, a TBR going back years to which you can add some fresh new hits). Add to that the inevitable Barnes and Noble gift card from a distant aunt and uncle and the countless reading challenges you signed up for in the last week of December and this list couldn’t come at a better time, could it!
So, whether you’ve resolved to read 1 or 100 books this year, we here at the Lambda Review are here to make sure you never run low on queer lit, publishing news, author interviews, bookish features, and assorted tomfoolery!
As we slide gently into the new year, we have collected a robust list of LGBTQIA+ titles hitting the shelves in January 2024 from 2016 Lambda Emerging Writers Fellow Naomi Kanakia’s newest YA offering, to the third installment of T J Klune’s Green Creek Series. Lizzie Pook pulls out all the stops for her atmospheric Victorian thriller Maude Horton’s Glorious Revenge, while Kaveh Akhbar delivers a deeply meditative and incisive novel on faith, art, and family. Romance is also climbing new heights this month as Lambda Finalist for Lesbian Fiction Jae drops another tender yet waggish enemies-to-lovers romp with Ylva Publishing. Rounded out by an impressive and encouraging showing of children’s and middle grade lit, there is truly something for everyone this new year.
So, go on! Start building your own list and let us know which books you enjoyed most!
